Xiaomi Mi 4c will be unveiled on 22 September

The handset has been leaked before on several occasions – the latest rumor is that the third  Mi 4 version will be unveiled on September 22. Similar to the majority of Xiaomi devices, the upcoming Mi 4c is expected to be unveiled in China first and then rolled out in other regions. The phone already passed through TENAA and benchmarks.

Another leak tips the smartphone will feature an infrared port for security purposes.

Based on preliminary leaks, the Xiaomi Mi 4c may become the company's first smartphone featuring USB Type-C, possibly version 3.0, according to the leaked retail box image. The handset is said to run MIUI ROM, most likely the recently released MIUI 7 build. The Mi 4c was also spotted in a Tenaa listing with model name Millet 2015561 and in White colour variant.

Mi 4c box will also bundle a microUSB to USB-Type C adapter. It will be backed by a 3,080mAh battery. The dimension are expected to be exactly the same as the Mi 4i, 138.1 x 69.6 x 7.8 mm and should also weigh just about 130 grams.

Previously, a leaked AnTuTu benchmark result proved that the alleged Mi 4c will come with 1.4GHz hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor and connectivity options will include 3G, GPRS/ EDGE and 4G LTE.

It will feature a more powerful chipset than the Mi 4i – a Snapdragon 808, up from 615 – but the rest seems largely unchanged. The camera setup will remain 13MP on the back and  5MP on the front though video capture resolution is uncertain. It could match the original Mi 4 at 2160p or stay at 1080p like the Mi 4i (the 615 chipset can't do 2160p, but 808 can).

The leaks so far have tipped that the handset will be placed between the flagship Mi 4 and affordable Mi 4i smartphones. The yet-to-be-launched Xiaomi Mi 4c's retail box had leaked, apart from other details. Other rumoured specifications include a 5-inch full-HD display; 2GB  of RAM; 16GB storage, and a 3080mAh battery.

Xiaomi India on Wednesday announced that it sold three million smartphones in India to date. The Chinese company back in December had claimed it had sold 1 million smartphones in the country since its launch in July last year. The company said it crossed two million mark by March this year, and took another six months to touch the three million milestone.

One relatively big change is the move to USB Type-C, which is slowly gaining popularity. The Xiaomi Mi 4c is will be a dual-SIM phone with LTE, no microSD slot, an MIUI 7 on top of Android 5.1

The expected price is CNY 1,300 (about $200) and China will get it first, rolling out to
other regions where Xiaomi is active later on.
